Added FAQ Page March 12, 2003

A number of you have submitted similar questions or bug reports. In an attempt to give you better support for any problems you encounter running XLogical, I have put up a Frequently Asked Questions page. Hopefully this will be of some use to you.

Alternate Graphics Pack June 12, 2002

The downloads page has been updated with an Alternate Graphics Pack submitted by Andrew Carpenter.

Andrew hand-drew all the replacement graphics for XLogical (including fonts) using The Gimp. The look and feel is more like the original XLogical game on the Amiga. It really gives the game a fresh new look if you have been playing the game for a while. Thanks Andrew!

Red Hat 7.1 RPM of XLogical 1.0-7 Available August 1, 2001

The downloads page has been updated with an RPM of xlogical-1.0-7 built for Red Hat 7.1. Thanks Achim Settelmeier for taking the time to build an RPM for Red Hat users!

On another note, S. Gwizdak sent me a list of build problems found while building XLogical on FreeBSD 4.2. These build problems have all been resolved with the latest release. We are now trying to add xlogical into the FreeBSD port source tree.

XLogical 1.0-7 Released July 31, 2001

The downloads page has been updated with the Linux distributions of the latest release of XLogical. At the moment, I only have the Mandrake 8.0 binary RPM available. If anyone wants to submit binary RPMs for other distros, send me an email.

XLogical 1.0-6 Released March 16, 2001

The downloads page has been updated with the Linux distributions of the latest release of XLogical. I also took down the old RPMs since they were quite outdated. At the moment, I only have the Mandrake 7.2 binary RPM available. If anyone wants to submit binary RPMs for other distros, send me an email.

XLogical for Win32 Available for Download March 15, 2001

I finished fixing up the bugs that I mentioned in my previous update. There is still one outstanding issue with the Windows version of xlogical - when playing in fullscreen mode, there are occasional graphics glitches. However, the Linux version plays smoothly in all video modes. I have decided to release the Win32 version despite this since this may be an SDL bug. The downloads page has been updated with a link to a zip file containing the binary Win32 distribution.

XLogical Being Ported To WIN32 March 14, 2001

A number of people have expressed an interest in a Windows version of XLogical. As a result I spent a day porting the bulk of the code over to Windows. XLogical is running in Windows but there are a few quirks with SDL in Windows compared to Linux. I am in the process of fixing these quirks so that everything works the same as it does on the Linux version. Also, I have noticed some occasional bugs on both OSes where a ball passes through a blocker tile or doesn't get painted by a painter tile. As soon as I fix these bugs, I will put out a new Linux release as well as a binary build for Win32 users.

New Release XLogical 1.0-5 December 27, 2000

I just put out a new release fixing some bugs when quitting after playing in fullscreen mode. Also, the install has been changed slightly so that the files are not installed as root anymore. Please see the ChangeLog for details on what has been fixed in the new release. As usual, the downloads page has been updated with the new RPMs and tar balls. Thanks again to everyone that sent in bug reports! :)

New Release XLogical 1.0-4 November 18, 2000

Neil and I both worked on fixing the bug reports that we received (thanks to all those people who sent in descriptive reports). Please see the ChangeLog for details on what has been fixed in the new release. As usual, the downloads page has been updated with the new RPMs and tar balls.

XLogical 1.0-3 Red Hat 6.0 RPM October 16, 2000

Thanks to Adwin, we now have a Red Hat 6.0 RPM build of the latest release of XLogical. You can grab it from the downloads page.

I also updated the runtime requirements section. The version of SDL_image was incorrect.

New Release Out Today & XLogical Levels Wanted October 15, 2000

We've had a few XLogical bugs reported... thanks to those who submitted bugs. We are putting together a new release that should address those bugs so keep an eye on the downloads page for updated RPMs and tarballs.

This may be a bit early to be asking for this... but if any of you have created some custom levels that you think are pretty good, consider submitting them to us to be included in a future release. If we get some submissions, I'll put up a page crediting individuals with their contributions. Mail level submissions to us at xlogical at changeling dot ixionstudios dot com.

XLogical Screenshots & Run Sheet Updated October 12, 2000

I updated the XLogical screenshots page with more recent screen shots. The pictures that were there before were from a very old alpha version that was built a few months ago. Since then, XLogical underwent a major overhaul in the graphics and sound areas in order to use the SDL library.

The XLogical Run Sheet has also been udpated on the description page. If you would like more information on the command line options and configuration parameters for XLogical, have a look at this section.

XLogical 1.0 Downloads October 9, 2000

We found a fairly large memory leak that slipped into our first release. All the tarballs and RPMs have been updated with the memory leak fix. If you grabbed xlogical-1.0-1 and find that XLogical starts to swap after a few hours of playing, you probably found the memory leak as well.

The downloads page has been updated with xlogical-1.0-2 tarballs and RPMs so be sure to install the latest release. Neil has also built RPMs for Mandrake 7.1 and Red Hat 6.2 so be sure to grab the appropriate version for your OS instead of my hybrid build.

XLogical 1.0 Released!!! October 8, 2000

The links on the downloads page should be working now. The binary RPM might not work very well for some people because I built it on my hybrid Mandrake 7.0/7.2beta machine. As soon as I reinstall/upgrade my system to the latest Mandrake release, I'll put together a new binary RPM... enjoy!

XLogical Release This Weekend! October 7, 2000

The conversion to the SDL toolkit is complete for XLogical. Neil and I are in the process of finishing off a few more items on our TODO list before our first release of XLogical 1.0. This should be completed by the end of the long weekend.

I updated the downloads page with links to tar balls, binary RPMs, and a source RPM but they are not yet online. As soon as we have finished off the items on our TODO list, I will be making sure the links are pointing to valid files... so stay tuned.

XLogical switches to SDL September 27, 2000

Neil worked hard at converting the graphics drawing layer to use the SDL library. This resulted in a nifty speed increase so that XLogical should now be playable on low end Pentium machines.

I will be working at converting the sound and music code to use SDL_mixer over the next few days (hopefully).

The latest source code is available in the CVS repository as "xl" instead of "xlogical". The old source tree is still available but we will not be maintaining it any further. Once we finish converting over to SDL and have fixed the remaining small bugs, I will remove the old source tree in favor of the new improved source tree.

More work on web site April 19, 2000

I did some more work on the web site this evening. The screenshots frame now uses a CGI script to display the screen captures. I also added a page for information about the authors... hopefully they get off their butts and send me some content! ;) Lastly, I added a hit counter in the footer.

XLogical site is up! April 18, 2000

Well, I finally decided to sit down and start working on this web page. The CoreNET web page has had a message saying "XLogical web page coming soon" since the beginning of the year. :) Hopefully this move gives Neil and I some incentive to release XLogical after almost 8 months of intermittent development... geez we really need to get our act together on these projects!

Anyway, I just created a description page, screenshots page, a downloads page, and a cvs repository page. Let me know if you have any feedback on them.
